Upper Spean 4/4+ V contiunous big water run usually unknown in Britain Full on remember to get out well above the 6, would want to paddle this with a leaky boat, Carl

Jan 2002

Who : Phil, Robin, Stef, Carl, Dav, Arran, Russ, Tom

Bunkhouse nr. Red Squirrel Campsite in Glencoe, Basic and cold but perfectly located

River Grade Description Advice
Spean Gorge 3/4(5) Narrow Gorge with boils and a couple of interesting drops Very high level mostly washed out but many large boils and a couple of nice drops
Roy 3/4(4+) Great full-on gorge and a couple of decent drops Good (high) level and nice drop after the portage (hole above this is a bit sticky)
Etive 4(5) Waterfall pool drop Very high level, just paddled triple drop and most people seemed to get trashed in the holes esp Dav abusing the river while swimming
Alt Kinglas 3+(4+) Narrow Pool drop style trib The fall isn't as hard as I though it looked last time...
Orchy 3/4(5) Big water with two massive 5's Both 5s paddled this time good level 3ft
Kiashnish 4(5) Steep fast-flowing upper section and pool drop gorge Paddled after "the hurricane" gale force winds and mega levels full on for the whole 5-6k 3 hard portages requiring ropes (one of which can be paddled if you have a big boat) Do not bang your head on first drop! Do not get swep backwards down the middle g5 section
Nevis 5 One of the hardest runs in the area Fortuanately a bit low for the upper section so the hardcore posse just paddled the big waterfall at the end

X-moments Breaking the piano while drinking and needing to drink more whisky to fix it getting a thorough beating on the Kiashnish Dav swimming and still smiling on the Etive
